The outdoor custom made upholstery specialist Ng Han Shing 伍漢成 (1923 – 2012)  achieved great renown for marine upholstery. Through his designs, frame making, patterning and fitting using only the highest quality marine fabrics, threads, hardware and fixings, he may be said to have served as an arbiter of marine fabric products and life style.

Mr Ng Han Shing was educated and grew up in China. From Guangdong young Mr Ng migrated to Hong Kong. He rose from humble beginnings as a worker in a textile factory, while he learnt and eventually master the skills for cutting canvas, upholstery and curtain fabrics, delivering materials to machines, pressing finished garments and inspecting and finishing completed garments.

By 1950 Mr Ng had settled in eastern Hong Kong island, where he set up a dedicated workshop for made-to-measure covers for local boats and sailing yachts. This was followed by his first factory in Chai Wan in 1980, where he established his territory-wide famous business of designing, manufacturing, and merchandising outdoor upholsteries. Mr Ng played a huge part in his success, he established himself as one of the leading experts on all aspects of marine fabric cover and canvas work in Hong Kong.

In the lifetime of remarkable achievement, Mr Ng had shaped his own character — industriousness and stamina. He created Sing Kee Sail and Flag Company with a “Never give up!” attitude. This also creates opportunities to add value outside the company, “If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere,” he once said. “It’s often our job to help others to carry their burdens, and support them through difficulty until they emerge on the other side.”

Sing Kee’s 70-year reputation for excellence is a reflection of that culture, building on a tradition of willing to improve, refine and customize our services to continually give customers what they want. As the company motto we adopted: “Our life will become better by making other lives better.”
