Dr Chung Wa Ng is part of the second generation of our family’s marine fabric business and is our founder’s youngest son. At Sing Kee, Chung Wa is one of the most youthful and most passionate about fabric and design. He began to create his own products for the family at the age of seven, and he showed strong skills at artistic expression and professional mastery of seam work. Our father used to tell stories about a young Chung Wa standing on a stepper to reach the sewing machine and made backpacks and school bags for his elder brother and sisters. He has been best known as the ‘in-house’ designer in our home and a maker of beautiful boat covers for our factory for many years, until he left Hong Kong for the United Kingdom in 1983.

Dr Ng received his BSc. in Computing Science from Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London in 1986.  After working one year at IBM Hong Kong, he left Hong Kong again to pursue his graduate education in the United States.  He earned his MSc. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1991 and 1992, and his graduate research focused on the Complexity of Scheduling Problems with Constraints.  Since graduation from Tulane University in 1992, he has been serving in several roles as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and former Chair in the Department of Computer Science, Morehouse College in Atlanta Georgia. In addition, he has been the Coach for the Departmental Computer Science Programming Team since 1997.  Dr Ng’s teaching profession provides him the opportunity to positively influence the younger generation and help shape the future of our young people and society.

People aren’t the only thing he builds up; outside of work he also enjoys making quilted items with his long-time partner Karon Park, a designer and quilter who instils her art teaching experiences in enriching creativity with love and innovation. Together, they are dedicated to regenerate traditional quilt design and venture forth new artistic patterns as illustrated in the use of different kinds of fabrics and creating modern takes on old piecing traditions, which continue to evolve, stimulate and excite.
